W Bengal: What did Abhishek Banerjee say on question of differences with Mamata and joining BJP?

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MP and party's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee today dismissed reports of alleged 'differences' with party chief Mamata Banerjee, saying that he will remain a "loyal soldier" of the party and considers the party chief as his leader.

Addressing senior party workers and leaders at the Trinamool Congress organizational meeting at the Netaji Indoor Stadium here, Abhishek claimed that whenever the elections approach, the opposition habitually resorts to spreading such "rumors". The purpose of the meeting was to prepare a strategy for the 2026 assembly elections in the state.

TMC general secretary Abhishek also said, "Those who are saying that I am joining the BJP, let me tell you that even if my head is beheaded, I will still chant 'Mamata Banerjee Zindabad' till my last breath."

Abhishek's statement is considered important in the sense that recently he has been missing from a leading role in Trinamool's organizational activities and his focus has been mainly on social welfare work and that too has been limited to his constituency Diamond Harbor. The MP said, "I know those who are spreading such false news. They have vested interests ahead of the assembly elections next year."

Naming Mukul Roy and Shubhendu Adhikari, Abhishek said, "I had exposed them earlier as well. Whoever is trying to create unrest within our party, I will expose them once again."

Emphasizing the need to follow discipline in the party, Abhishek cautioned Trinamool Congress leaders to be careful about their statements in the public sphere.

At the same time, citing the new chargesheet of the CBI in connection with the investigation of the teacher recruitment scam, Abhishek accused the agency of "working at the behest of its political masters. Abhishek claimed, "I am surprised to see that the CBI is so scared that it is pointing fingers at me in an indirect way. However, they do not have any evidence worthy of taking action against me, he added.
