In Punjab, Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa had claimed that 30 MLAs of Aam Aadmi Party are in touch with Congress.
On this, a statement of Aam Aadmi Party MP Gurmeet Singh from Sangrur, Punjab has come to the fore.
Punjab LoP Partap Singh Bajwa has claimed that over 30 AAP MLAs in Punjab were in contact with Congress. Bajwa further hinted at the possibility of mid-term elections in the state, suggesting that Congress was the only viable alternative for AAP MLAs looking for a change. Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, too, expressed similar concerns, raising the specter of defections within AAP.
Trashing all such speculations, Meet said, "Pratap Singh Bajwa ji has given such statements many times in the last three years that so many people are in touch. Sometimes he says 20, sometimes 22, now he has started saying 30."
He said, "Pratap Singh Bajwa's own brother went to BJP, and he did not know about this but he knows which AAP MLAs are in touch and with whom."
The MP said, "Sometimes they say that they are in touch with BJP, and sometimes they say that they are in touch with Congress. But, in reality, the truth is, it is not just my doubt, it is the doubt of the people of entire Punjab that if Pratap Singh Bajwa is not made the CM candidate, then Pratap Singh Bajwa will go to BJP first."
"If he is not made the CM candidate, then I am giving you in writing that first of all he will go to BJP, because he has already sent his brother. First of all Pratap Singh Bajwa will go to BJP."
Narinder Kaur also takes a jibe at Congress
Punjab AAP MLA Narinder Kaur took a direct jibe at Congress, accusing the Grand Old Party of failing to make a mark in Delhi.
Speaking during the meeting called by AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi on Tuesday, Kaur dismissed rumors about any fissures within the party and dismissed Congress’s claims about AAP MLAs in Punjab being in touch with them.
"We accept the mandate of Delhi people. AAP will play the role of a strong Opposition. This is a routine meeting. On the talks of AAP MLAs in touch with Punjab’s Leader of Opposition (LoP), they should think about themselves. Congress could not open their account in Delhi. They should think about themselves," Kaur remarked, adding, “Our leaders are able to do our politics, and we will continue to do so."
