What Did Cong Leader Pawan Khera Say Over Deportation of Indians from America?

A US military plane carrying Indians living without documents in the US landed at Guru Ravidas International Airport in Amritsar on Wednesday. On this, Congress leader Pawan Khera has taunted the Central Government.

In a post on social media platform X, he wrote, "Seeing the pictures of Indians being deported from the US in handcuffs and humiliation, I feel sad as an Indian."

Referring to December 2013, Pawan Khera wrote, "I remember the incident when Indian diplomat Devyani Uttam Khobragade was handcuffed and strip searched in the US."

He told that the then Foreign Secretary Sujata Singh had lodged a strong protest with the US Ambassador Nancy Powell regarding this. The UPA government had reacted sharply.

He further wrote, "Leaders like Meira Kumar, Sushil Kumar Shinde and Rahul Gandhi had refused to meet the US Congress delegation that had come to India."

Pawan Khera also mentioned the statement of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in which he had called this action of America 'reprehensible'.

Last week, US President Donald Trump and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio had expressed concern about illegal Indian immigrants living in America during a phone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Later, while talking to journalists, Donald Trump said, "We hope that India will take the right steps regarding Indians living in America without documents."
