What Supriya Sule said as Maharashtra prepares to bring a law against love jihad?

The BJP government of Maharashtra has formed a 7-member committee to make laws against cases like love jihad and forced conversion. The committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Maharashtra DGP Sanjay Verma.

Senior officials of major departments like Women and Child Welfare, Minority Affairs, Law and Judiciary, Social Justice and Home have been included in the panel.

The committee will suggest how to deal with complaints of forced conversion and love jihad. Apart from this, it will study the laws applicable in other states and give legal advice on this basis.

What Supriya Sule said?

Leader of opposition party NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) in Maharashtra, Supriya Sule said - Marriage or love is a personal wish. I request the government to pay attention to the real issues. Modi ji has just returned from America. America has imposed new tariffs on us, which will affect our country. Attention should be paid to such matters.

In October 2024, the then Deputy Chief Minister and current Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said - A decade ago we used to think that love jihad is an isolated incident, but more than one lakh complaints have been received. In these, Hindu women were lured into running away and marrying men of other religions.
