Why Rekha Gupta as Delhi CM is a Strategic Choice by BJP?

The BJP has appointed Rekha Gupta as the Chief Minister of Delhi, putting an end to various speculations surrounding the decision. The party's top leadership has expressed strong confidence in her selection.

While many names were discussed earlier in the day, Gupta's announcement during the BJP Legislative Party meeting came as a surprise to many. Nevertheless, she received congratulations from her peers, prompting questions about the criteria behind her selection as Chief Minister.

Rekha Gupta secured her position in the Delhi Assembly by winning the election from Shalimar Bagh. A native of Jind, Haryana, she holds a law degree and completed her education in Delhi. Gupta's political journey began with her involvement in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

Her selection is also strategically significant, as she belongs to the Vaishya community, which is a key voter base for the BJP and shares a common background with former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Additionally, Gupta has substantial organizational experience, making her a fitting choice for the role.

Emphasis on Youth

The BJP is actively promoting younger leaders by sidelining more veteran members. This trend has been evident in recent elections across states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, and has now extended to Delhi.

Integrity and Clean Image

A critical factor in the selection process is the absence of any corruption allegations against the chosen candidate. The BJP aims to convey a message of integrity across the nation, particularly to its opposition. The party seeks leaders who prioritize public service over personal ambition, reinforcing this message to its grassroots workers.

Ties with RSS and party organization

Candidates with strong ties to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP organization have been favored for leadership roles. The party continues to promote diligent and honest leaders, as seen in the cases of Rajasthan’s Bhajan Lal Sharma, Mohan Yadav from Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Charan Majhi from Odisha, and Chhattisgarh’s Vishnudeo Sai.

Popularity Factor

Another major criterion for selecting a CM is the candidate's popularity. While Delhi lacked a prominent face, Rekha Gupta's clean reputation and rapport with party workers facilitated her selection.

Recognition of Dedicated Workers

BJP been known to reward dedicated BJP workers, exemplified by leaders like Nayab Saini and Pushkar Singh Dhami.
