After Airtel, now Reliance Jio has also partnered with Elon Musk's company SpaceX. Airtel, which was already working on satellite-based internet connectivity in India through its One Web project along with broadband, haS announced that it wants to work with SpaceX's Starlink and an official agreement has also been completed in this regard.
Now after this move of Airtel, Jio has decided to take its business forward by making an agreement instead of competing with SpaceX. It is also possible that Jio will remain a partner of SpaceX for some time and later develop its own satellite platform.
Starlink will bring high-speed internet to India
Elon Musk says that the way the government allots bands in other countries of the world, they should also be given the same way, but in India the band is obtained by bidding. America believes that this is a kind of disregard of global rules. SpaceX has low earth orbit satellites which directly send the beam of internet to the earth, due to which its speed is also fast and without wire, it can supply internet from the sky in inaccessible areas like mountains, plateaus and deserts. Till now there are many problems regarding internet in the Himalayas and other hilly areas.
Similarly, it is not profitable to provide internet to the islands and villages and towns which are isolated from the mainstream, but if internet is provided to them through direct beaming technology from the sky, then the cost of hardware will be saved.
Despite all these facilities, the cost of Starlink's hardware will be around Rs 30,000 and the monthly cost will be Rs 6000, which is much more expensive than the current price of broadband. Currently this cost is just Rs 1000. Apart from professional companies, the possibility of it being adopted by common people, at least at this price, is looking low.
Starlink is a satellite broadband internet service
Starlink is a satellite broadband internet service that can provide internet facility anywhere within satellite coverage. Due to this feature, it is a better option for internet access in remote or rural areas, where traditionally internet service is not available.
Jio Platforms Limited has said through a press release that Jio and Starlink are expanding together to connect the whole of India with high speed internet and this agreement is a milestone in terms of the development of internet connectivity in India. JPL has said, “Jio Platforms Limited has signed an agreement with SpaceX to provide Starlink broadband internet service to Indian consumers. Jio will provide Starlink service through its retail outlets and online.
