There is uncertainty surrounding New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry's availability for the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Henry sustained a shoulder injury during the semi-final match against South Africa, leaving his participation in the final uncertain.
As the tournament's leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets, including a notable performance where he took 5 wickets against India in the group stage, Henry's absence would be a big setback for New Zealand. He is known for his ability to bowl effectively with both the new and old ball, having troubled prominent batsmen like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the earlier match against India.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead has voiced concerns about Henry's condition. He stated, "The most positive thing was that he came back on the field and bowled two overs. We have got him scanned and will try to give him every chance to play. But the situation is not completely clear right now."
Jacob Duffy may join the playing XI
Henry's injury occurred while he was attempting to catch a ball from South Africa's Heinrich Klaasen. Despite the injury, he managed to return to the field and bowl, but continues to experience shoulder pain, casting doubt on his ability to play in the final. Should Henry be unable to participate, Jacob Duffy may be called up to join the playing XI.
Duffy has yet to play in this tournament, but he previously recorded 1 wicket for 48 runs in 7 overs during the pre-tournament tri-series against Pakistan. With limited options available, Henry's injury poses a significant concern for the New Zealand team as they prepare for the final.
