IND vs AUS: Indian cricket team's star batsman, Virat Kohli, made history by scoring a half-century in the semi-final match against Australia during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This milestone marked his 24th score of 50 or more runs in ICC ODI events, surpassing the previous record held by legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who had 23 such scores.
Kohli achieved this feat by reaching his 24th ODI half-century, becoming the first player to score over 50 runs seven times in the Champions Trophy. Throughout his career in eight ICC ODI events, which include four ODI World Cups and four Champions Trophy tournaments, Kohli has played 54 matches and crossed the 50-run mark on 24 occasions.
Surpassed Shikhar Dhawan's record
In addition to his half-century against Australia, Kohli has accumulated a total of one century and six half-centuries in 17 Champions Trophy matches. He surpassed Shikhar Dhawan's record of 701 runs to become the highest run-scorer for India in the history of the Champions Trophy.
Highest run-scorer in ICC tournaments
With his performance, Kohli also set a record as the highest run-scorer in ICC tournaments, amassing 1,000 runs in knockout matches, a feat no other player has achieved before.
