Thiruvananthapuram/Kochi: Mahatma Gandhi's great-grandson Tushar Gandhi has found himself at the center of controversy following his sharp remarks about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His statements have sparked demands for his arrest.
During the unveiling of a statue of Gandhian leader P. Gopinathan Nair in Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram, Tushar Gandhi described the RSS and BJP as dangerous organizations that pose a big challenge to Kerala. He labeled the Sangh as a "dangerous enemy" and stated that he would neither retract his comments nor apologize for them. Following his remarks, supporters of the BJP and RSS protested, calling for legal action against him.
While unveiling the statue, Tushar referred to the BJP and RSS as insidious enemies who have infiltrated Kerala, even going so far as to describe the RSS as "poison." This led to protests from BJP-RSS workers, who raised slogans and attempted to block his vehicle.
In response to Tushar Gandhi's comments, BJP leaders expressed their outrage and demanded strict action. BJP leader V. Muralidharan accused him of attempting to exploit Mahatma Gandhi's legacy for political and economic gain. The BJP argues that Tushar's statements could disrupt communal harmony, warranting immediate arrest.
Tushar Gandhi, however, remains steadfast in his position. At a subsequent event in Kochi, he reiterated his refusal to retract his statements, emphasizing the importance of his fight and his commitment to expressing his views. Tensions escalated when RSS supporters attempted to surround his car, further complicating the situation. The possibility of legal action against Tushar Gandhi appears to be increasing in light of these developments.
