Color gulal will not be allowed during Holi and Rangpanchami this year at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain. This year, strict rules have been put in place for devotees.
The traditional Holika Dahan will be celebrated on Thursday, March 13, and Dhulendi will be celebrated on March 14 across the country. However, following a fire accident at Baba Mahakal's Darbar last year, the temple management has implemented stringent regulations.
Entry with color and gulal into the temple premises is totally banned. Additionally, the temple committee will provide herbal gulal in very limited quantities for offering to the Lord.
Last year a fire incident occurred
Last year a fire incident had occurred when chemical gulal caught fire. This year, only the tradition of colors will be observed on Dhulendi and Rangpanchami at Ujjain's Jyotirlinga Mahakal Temple. Priests will be permitted to offer only herbal gulal and herbal color made from saffron as a symbol to Lord Mahakal. This decision was takehn during a meeting of the temple management committee, chaired by Ujjain collector and temple administrator Neeraj Kumar Singh.
Playing Holi has been banned in temple premises
The temple management committee has prohibited the excessive use of colors and gulal in the name of Rangotsav. Additionally, playing Holi has been banned this year in the temple premises, including Nandi Hall, Ganesh Mandapam, and Kartikeya Mandapam.
The Mahakal Temple Management Committee has enforced such strict rules that not only devotees, priests, and employees, but even pandits and purohits will not be allowed to enter the temple with color or gulal.
Only herbal gulal will be available in limited quantities during the evening aarti. This decision follows the arson incident that occurred on Dhulendi last year.
During the Bhasma Aarti last year, a fire broke out in the court of Mahakal Baba, resulting in burn injuries to 14 priests and devotees. Tragically, an 80-year-old priest, Satyanarayan Soni, who was severely burned, later passed away.
For several years, colored balloons and gulal were showered in the name of Rangotsav in Baba Mahakal's temple.
Only pure and herbal gulal will be offered
This year, only pure and herbal gulal will be offered to the Lord during the evening aarti and shayan aarti, along with the bhasma aarti on Holi. After Holi, on the day of Rangpanchami, the priest will be allowed to offer only one lota of herbal color made from saffron to Lord Mahakal.
The temple management committee will provide herbal gulal along with saffron color to the priests performing the bhasma aarti and the government priest to uphold the tradition.
