MP: Cheetah Gamini, 4 cubs to expedite their freedom in Kuno’s open forest, what CM Mohan Yadav said?


Sheopur: There is good news for tourists undertaking jungle safaris in Kuno National Park, Sheopur. The park management has released five cheetahs from the large enclosure to expedite their freedom in the open forest. With the consent of the Cheetah Steering Committee, the management released female cheetah Gamini and her four cubs into the forest on Monday. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed optimism, stating that the "king of speed will run fast in the open forest."


Under the Cheetah Project, female cheetah Gamini was brought to India as part of the second batch from South Africa on February 18, 2022. She has since given birth to four cubs, comprising two males and two females. The administration has been caring for Gamini and her cubs in the park's enclosure.


The director of Kuno National Park has reported that with the release of Gamini and her four cubs, there are now 17 cheetahs roaming freely in the open, including 11 cubs. There are still nine cheetahs remaining in the large enclosure, including three cubs. In total, Kuno National Park is home to 26 cheetahs, all of which are reported to be in good health


Boost to tourism in Chambal: CM


CM Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the reintroduction of cheetahs from South Africa to Indian soil is not just an important project for the country but also for the entire Asian continent. The selection of Kuno (Sheopur) for this intercontinental project is a matter of pride for the state. The dedication and relentless efforts of the state’s Forest Department have made the successful implementation of this ambitious project possible.


The CM noted that the cheetah population in the region is steadily increasing, which will promote tourism activities in Chambal, generate employment opportunities, and strengthen the overall economy of the Chambal region. He expressed these views in a message released to the media.
