After the recent violence in Nagpur, the political atmosphere in Maharashtra remains charged with ongoing disputes between ruling and opposition leaders. On Friday, March 21, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar made a big statement, emphasizing solidarity with the Muslim community. He asserted that anyone who threatens or intimidates Muslim people will face consequences, regardless of their position.
During an Iftar party at Islam Gymkhana in Mumbai, Ajit Pawar stressed the importance of unity in a diverse nation like India. He urged citizens to resist divisive forces and celebrate festivals like Holi, Gudi Padwa, and Eid together, stating that "unity is our real strength."
Pawar reassured attendees of his support. He said, "I assure you that your brother Ajit Pawar is with you. Whoever shows their eyes to Muslim brothers, incites conflict, and disrupts law and order will not be spared or forgiven under any circumstances."
He also remarked that Ramadan transcends any single religion, representing values of humanity, sacrifice, and introspection. According to him, fasting serves to purify not just the body, but also the mind and soul.
The backdrop of these statements is the unrest that erupted following protests by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal on March 17, demanding the removal of Aurangzeb's tomb. The protests escalated when demonstrators burned an effigy of Aurangzeb, leading to tensions and accusations of religious insensitivity.
