A senior U.S. State Department official has said that the Trump administration believes the Ukrainian leadership is "ready to move forward" on U.S. demands for a ceasefire with Russia.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz are scheduled to arrive in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday for talks with their Ukrainian counterparts.
President Donald Trump has consistently pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to agree to an early ceasefire with Russia. However, Trump has not made any immediate promises regarding U.S. security guarantees for Ukraine.
Ten days ago, a tense debate took place between Trump and Zelensky at the White House, during which Trump asserted that Zelensky was not prepared to end the fighting.
Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine in February 2022, and currently, approximately 20 percent of Ukraine remains under Russian occupation.
