What All India Imam Association President said in response to Sambhal CO’s statement regarding Holi celebrations during Ramzan?

The President of the All India Imam Association, Maulana Sajid Rashidi, has urged Imams across the country to postpone Friday prayers in light of the Holi festival.

Talking to media, Rashidi stated, "To foster brotherhood in the country, I appeal to all Indians on behalf of the All India Imam Association that we should delay the Friday prayers a little."

He explained, "If we do this, it will not affect the essence of our prayers. Instead of holding prayers at one o'clock, we should conduct them at 2:30 PM so that Holi can be celebrated peacefully."

Rashidi emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony, noting, "There may be some people on both sides who would seek to disrupt the atmosphere; this is a great way to avoid such situations."

What Sambhal CO Anuj Chadhary said?

A comment on Holi and Ramzan by Sambhal Circle Officer Anuj Chadhary has sparked controversy. This year, the second Friday of Ramzan falls on March 1 — coinciding with Holi. Now, Chaudhary's statement has sparked a row as he advised the Muslim community to stay indoors if they are uncomfortable with Holi celebrations.

Speaking on the matter, CO Anuj Chaudhary remarked, “Friday prayers happen 52 times a year, while Holi comes only once. If members of the Muslim community feel that Holi colours might affect their religious beliefs, they should not come out of their homes on that day. However, if any miscreant is found causing trouble during Holi, strict action will be taken. We shall not allow peace to be disrupted in Sambhal.”
