What order UP's Yogi Adityanath govt has issued on the sale of meat in the state?

The Uttar Pradesh government has issued an order to close illegal slaughterhouses and ban the sale of meat within 500 meters of religious places.

Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary of Urban Development Department, has directed all District Magistrates, Police Commissioners and Municipal Commissioners to immediately close illegal slaughterhouses and enforce the ban on meat sale near religious places.

Citing the orders issued in 2014 and 2017, the Yogi government has clarified that illegal animal slaughter and meat sale near religious places will be completely banned.

To make this decision effective, district level committees have been formed under the chairmanship of District Magistrates. These will include officials from Police, Pollution Control Board, Animal Husbandry Department, Transport Department, Labor Department, Health Department and Food Safety Administration.

Ban will come into effect on Ram Navami

This ban will come into effect on Ram Navami on April 6, 2025, on which day animal slaughter and sale of meat will be completely banned.

Under the provisions of the UP Municipal Corporation Act 1959, Food Safety Act 2006 and 2011, the Yogi government has directed the officials to take strict punitive action against the violators.
