When Will Sunita Williams Finally Return to Earth? NASA Astronaut Shares the Hardest Challenge for Her and Her Family

NASA astronaut Sunita Williams may return to Earth by the end of March. She and fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore are expected to return via the SpaceX Crew Dragon mission, which is slated to launch in mid-March. Both astronauts arrived in space in June 2024 aboard the Boeing Starlight capsule but have faced delays and technical problems, leading to an extended stay of over nine months.

In a recent press conference, Sunita reflected on the challenges of their time in space. She said that the most difficult aspect was the uncertainty surrounding their return. "The hardest thing was that our family on Earth did not know when we would return. It has been like a rollercoaster for them, and perhaps it has been more difficult for them than for us," she stated.

The return mission has experienced multiple delays, but optimism remains high that the upcoming SpaceX Crew Dragon launch will ensure their safe return.

In a show of support, former US President Donald Trump sent a message to the astronauts, stating, "We love you very much and we are coming to pick you up." He also criticized the Biden administration for the delays, claiming, "You guys should not have stayed there for so long. The most incompetent president in our history allowed you to be stuck there. But now this president will not let that happen."

As the mission approaches, both Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore look forward to reuniting with their families and friends, bringing an end to their challenging ordeal in space.
