The festival of Holi, symbolizing the victory of good over evil, is celebrated annually on the full moon day of the Phalgun month. In 2025, Holi will be celebrated on March 14. Holika Dahan, the ritual of burning Holika, takes place the evening before Holi.
This year, however, the timing for Holika Dahan will be affected by the shadow of Bhadra. Traditionally, Holika is burned after sunset, but due to Bhadra, the ritual will need to wait until it concludes at 10:37 PM, after which Holika Dahan can be performed.
According to the Panchang, Holika Dahan is observed on the full moon day of the Phalgun month, followed by the vibrant celebration of colors on Holi. This festival not only marks the arrival of spring but also signifies the destruction of negative forces in the fire of Holika.
As we approach these festivities, it’s essential to reflect on their significance and the traditions that accompany them.
According to astrologers, Holika Dahan is performed every year on Purnima Tithi. It is being told that Bhadra will start from 10.03 am on March 13 with Purnima, which will last till 10.37 pm. In such a situation, burning Holika in Bhadra Kaal is forbidden. After Bhadra Kaal ends, Holika Dahan can be performed from 10.38 pm.
The shadow of lunar eclipse and Bhadra on Holi
According to Acharya Vidyakant Pandey, colors will be played on Holi festival on March 14. There will be a shadow of lunar eclipse on the same day. The lunar eclipse will occur at 10.39 am, which will last till 2.18 pm, but its effect will not be in India.
This lunar eclipse on Holi will not be visible in India because it is happening during the day according to Indian time. Therefore, its Sutak period will also not be valid in India. Therefore, there is no need to panic at all.
The first lunar eclipse of the year 2025 will be visible mainly over Australia, Europe and most of Africa, as well as the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic Ocean, North and South America, East Asia and Antarctica.
Due to the Sutak period not being valid, the eclipse will not have any effect on the festival of Holi and like every year, this year too this festival will be celebrated with pomp.
