Pahalgam Attack: Assam's All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam has given a controversial statement regarding the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. He has been arrested by the Assam Police and accused of treason and allegedly defending Pakistan's involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed displeasure over the controversial statement of Aminul Islam. Sarma posted on X saying, the Assam government will take strict action against all those who will try to directly or indirectly defend the horrific Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Chief Minister Sarma said that everyone should know clearly that those who try to justify, normalize or downplay the brutal killing of innocent civilians are not using freedom of expression - they are standing against the soul of India and such people will not be spared.
I have instructed @assampolice to take the strictest possible action against anyone who is supporting Pakistan in the wake of the #PahalgamTerroristAttack.

What was Aminul Islam's statement?
Assam opposition party AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam had claimed that the suicide attack on the convoy of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in February 2019 and the killing of 26 tourists in Pahalgam was a government conspiracy.
Assam Police has taken action against him after the MLA's video went viral on social media.
Party has nothing to do with what Haji Aminul has said: AIUDF chief
AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal has distanced himself from his MLA's statement. Badruddin said, I have received news that Haji Aminul Islam has been arrested for commenting on the Pahalgam incident. What Haji Aminul has said is very unfortunate.
Badruddin further said that at this time our priority is to stand with the Indian government. A terrorist is just a terrorist, he has no caste or religion. It is very importaant to criticize such people who are supporting terrorism, defaming Islam and Muslims. The comment made by Aminul Islam is his own opinion, the party has nothing to do with it.
