Patna: The issue of Waqf Amendment Bill may heat up in Bihar elections 2025. The constituent parties of the Grand Alliance are eyeing those Muslim votes, which were with JDU till recently. Parties like RJD, Congress, Left as well as VIP have now started focusing on Pasmanda Muslims as the Waqf Bill is a sensitive issue for the Muslim community.
There is strong opposition in the Muslim community regarding this bill. If RJD and the other constituent parties of the Grand Alliance capitalize on this opportunity carefully, then they can strengthen their Muslim vote bank in the upcoming elections.
The focus of Tejashwi Yadav and the Grand Alliance under his leadership will be on campaigning for the protection of Waqf properties and the rights of the Muslim community in the upcoming elections. In the coming days, Tejashwi Yadav can go among the public and tell that the protection of Waqf properties is a priority for him and he will put pressure on the government regarding this matter.
Will Tejashwi Yadav benefit?
Tejashwi Yadav will try to capitalize on this issue in the 2025 assembly elections. To save minority votes, BJP can also make a big strategy in the coming days. Because, Bihar has 18-20% Muslim population which plays a decisive role in many assembly constituencies. Especially in areas like Seemanchal and East Bihar, there is discontent among the Muslim community regarding the Waqf Bill. It is being considered an attack on their religious and property rights. If Tejashwi Yadav takes a vocal stand on this issue, then Nitish Kumar's Pasmanda Muslim vote bank may shift.
Will JDU's Muslim vote bank decline?
While BJP is trying to polarize Hindu votes through the Waqf Bill, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has clearly said that JDU and LJP have betrayed Muslims by supporting this bill. In such a situation, if Muslim voters unite on this issue and go in favor of the Grand Alliance, then RJD can get 15-20 additional seats. This will especially affect those 40-50 seats where Muslim voters are decisive. RJD got 75 seats in the 2020 elections and this time this number may increase.
At the same time, JDU may have to suffer a loss in the Muslim vote bank after the Waqf Bill is passed. There is discontent within JDU after supporting the Waqf Bill and if this vote shifts towards the Grand Alliance, then the seats of NDA may decrease. RJD and Tejashwi Yadav will use the Waqf Bill as an emotional and political weapon in the 2025 Bihar elections, whose focus will be to unite Muslim votes and weaken the NDA.
