Taking a historic step, China has officially approved pilotless air taxi services. The decision has been taken by the country's Civil Aviation Authority, which has issued air operator certificates to EHang Holdings and Hefei Hey Airlines. After this approval, these companies will be able to operate autonomous passenger drones in urban areas. This move can become an example not only for China but also for the global aerospace industry.
Air taxi will be able to fly up to a height of 3,000 meters
The EH216-S air taxi developed by EHang is a two-seater electric drone with 16 propellers. This advanced technology drone can fly up to a height of 3,000 meters and has a maximum speed of 100 km/h.
Its testing video is becoming increasingly viral on social media, in which this pilotless taxi was seen taking off and landing. According to the company, this air taxi is specially designed for airport transfer, tourism and urban public transport.
China's strategy: Promoting low-altitude economy
The strategy behind this decision of China is believed to be to strengthen the low-altitude economy. The government believes that several areas related to innovation, such as quantum computing, artificial intelligence (AI), 6G networks and autonomous transport, can take the country's economic growth to new heights.
When will air taxi service start in India?
Research and development is going on in India regarding flying taxi technology. However, there is a need to strengthen the infrastructure, regulations and technical framework. Some startups and tech companies are working on hybrid electric and autonomous flying technology, but it will take time to be implemented at the commercial level.
Experts believe that as soon as aviation policies and technological infrastructure are strengthened in India, this cutting-edge technology can make its place in India as well.
