Country's largest EV charging station will be built here, 300 vehicles will be charged simultaneously


The demand for electric vehicles (EVs) is increasing rapidly in the country and along with this, major steps are also being taken towards strengthening the EV infrastructure. Now the world's second largest electric vehicle charging station is going to be built in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. The special thing is that this station will have the capacity to charge 300 vehicles simultaneously, making it India's largest EV charging hub.


Charging station will be operational by August


The construction work of this hi-tech EV station is going on at a fast pace in Thakurpukur area located in the southern part of Kolkata. It is expected that this project will be fully operational by August 2025. Both slow and fast chargers will be installed in this charging station, whose load capacity will be up to 120 kWh. The special thing is that 20 percent fast charging units will be included in it.


World's largest EV charging station is in China


Currently the world's largest EV charging station is in China, where 650 vehicles can be charged at a time. In this regard, this project of Kolkata will give India a special place on the global EV map. Earlier, the charging station built in Gurugram was the largest EV charging hub in the country, where 160 vehicles can be charged simultaneously.


Record breaking figures of EV sales in India


The year 2024 proved to be record breaking in the EV segment for India. This year 19,49,114 units of EV were sold, that is, on an average 5,325 electric vehicles were sold every day. A growth of 27% was registered as compared to the year 2023, when 15,32,389 units were sold. Two-wheelers accounted for 59% of the total sales, while sales of electric buses also increased by 59%. Passenger vehicles saw a 22% increase in sales.
