Rekha Gupta Government of Delhi may soon approve Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0 for the capital. Under this new policy, the green-yellow CNG autorickshaws, which have become the identity of the capital, will gradually be removed from the roads. The last date for this change has also been fixed in the draft document.
Old CNG autos will be removed in a phased manner
According to the draft of EV Policy 2.0, first of all, CNG autos 10 years or older will be removed and electric autorickshaws will be promoted in their place.
CNG autos will not get permit from August 15, 2025
According to the draft, after August 15, 2025, permits will not be issued for any new CNG auto in Delhi, nor will the registration of old autos be renewed. New permits will be available only for electric autorickshaws.
Facility of conversion from CNG to EV
The government has come up with a solution for those auto drivers who cannot buy a new auto. Such drivers will be able to convert their old CNG autos into battery-operated vehicles by installing electric kits in them, just like petrol cars are converted to CNG.
Other vehicles will also be electric
Not just autos, but garbage carrying vehicles, new buses and cluster buses in Delhi will also be converted to electric. Apart from this, all commercial three-wheelers will be banned from August 15, 2025 and CNG, petrol or diesel two-wheelers from August 15, 2026.
Third vehicle must only be EV
Under the new policy, if a person already has two vehicles, then the third vehicle can only be purchased as electric.
Delhi's new EV Policy 2.0 is a bold step towards making the capital clean and pollution-free. It will not only benefit the environment, but also prove to be helpful in making auto drivers technically advanced.
