Kanya Pujan 2025: Avoid These Mistakes for Full Benefits of Worship

The holy festival of Chaitra Navratri is currently being celebrated, concluding on April 6. Kanya Pujan holds special significance on the Ashtami or Navami Tithi during Navratri. According to scriptures, the worship of Navratri is deemed incomplete without Kanya Pujan. This ritual involves revering young girls as embodiments of the Goddess. However, certain mistakes can hinder the full benefits of this worship. Here are some key mistakes to avoid during Kanya Pujan:

Ensure a Clean and Holy Space

It is essential that the area designated for Kanya Pujan is clean and sacred. Worshiping in a dirty or untidy location can prevent the blessings of the Goddess from being received. Before Kanya Pujan, sprinkle Ganga water throughout the house and thoroughly clean the worship area.

Do Not Worship Without Bathing

Just as it is important to bathe before worshiping any deity, cleanliness is vital before Kanya Pujan. Ensure that the hands and feet of the girls are washed, and provide them with clean clothes to wear.

Invite an Appropriate Number of Girls

Religious beliefs suggest that inviting 2, 5, 7, or 9 girls for Kanya Pujan is auspicious. Worshiping an numbers such as 1, 3, 6, or 8 is considered inappropriate. Therefore, aim to invite either 2, 5, 7, or 9 girls for the ceremony.

Do Not Send Girls Away Empty-Handed

After Kanya Pujan, it is customary to present the girls with gifts, dakshina, fruits, or clothes based on your capacity. Sending them away empty-handed is viewed as inauspicious and may displease Goddess Durga. This mistake should be avoided.

Serve Fresh and Pure Food

For Kanya Pujan, always prepare satvik food, avoiding ingredients like onion and garlic. Only fresh and pure food should be offered to the girls. Providing stale food or food touched by unclean hands is considered inauspicious.

Treat Girls with Respect

Girls are regarded as manifestations of the Goddess. Therefore, it is crucial to treat them with respect. Engage with them kindly and serve them with devotion and love.
