Veteran actor Manoj Kumar aka Bharat Kumar passes away; PM Modi condoles demise

 


Bollywood veteran actor Manoj Kumar passed away on Friday morning. He breathed his last at the age of 87 in Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai.


His son Kunal Goswami said, "Unfortunately my father Manoj Kumar passed away. He breathed his last at 3:30 am on Friday in Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai."


"He was unwell for a long time. But, he fought it with great courage. It is God's mercy that he left this world peacefully, comfortably. His last rites will be performed tomorrow morning."


Manoj Kumar is known for his patriotic films


Manoj Kumar is known for his patriotic films in the Hindi film industry. His memorable films include Kranti, Upkaar, Shaheed, Purba Aur Paschim and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan.


His original name was Harikrishna Goswami. He adopted the name Manoj Kumar for his film career. He was born in 1937 in Abbottabad, which is now in Pakistan.


Manoj Kumar did so many patriotic films and they were so successful that his name became 'Bharat Kumar'.


PM Modi expresses grief 


Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over his demise.


Through a post on X, PM Modi said, "Deeply saddened by the demise of great actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar ji. He was an icon of Indian cinema, who was especially remembered for his patriotic zeal. It was also reflected in his films. Manoj ji's works awakened a sense of national pride. He will continue to inspire generations to come. My condolences are with his family and fans in this hour of grief."


Defense Minister Rajnath Singh wrote a post on X paying tribute to Manoj Kumar.


He wrote, "Shri Manoj Kumar ji was a talented actor. He will always be remembered for making films full of patriotism. My condolences to his family and fans. Om Shanti."


Filmmaker Ashok Pandit said, "Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner and veteran actor of Indian film industry Manoj Kumar ji is no more among us. This is a big loss for the entire film industry. The entire industry will miss him."
