New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a chargesheet in the money laundering case related to the National Herald, implicating Congress MP Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi as accused. The Congress party has denounced this action as an instance of revenge politics, targeting both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.
In response to the chargesheet, the Congress leadership has announced a nationwide protest scheduled for Wednesday, during which party members will gather outside ED offices across the country. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal has issued a letter calling for this protest.
The Congress party opposes the chargesheet, asserting that the ED's actions are retaliatory measures against its prominent leaders, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Special Judge Vishal Gogne has reviewed key aspects of the chargesheet, which was filed on April 9, and has scheduled the next hearing for April 25.
A clear attempt to suppress the opposition: Venugopal
Describing the ED's actions as revenge, KC Venugopal expressed on 'X' that the "Modi-Shah regime's spirit of revenge against the opposition has no limits." He said that the use of the fabricated National Herald case against Sonia Gandhi is a clear attempt to suppress and silence the opposition.
Venugopal further claimed that this reflects the desperation of the Prime Minister and Home Minister, who are failing to address public concerns and are attempting to divert attention. He reminded that the Gandhi family has historically made sacrifices for the country and asserted that such actions will not deter their resolve. He stated, "We will protest outside ED offices across the country tomorrow to register our strong protest against such politics of vengeance and intimidation."
