Gwalior: 122 Gold Medals and 33 Research Degrees Awarded in 6th Convocation of Raja Mansingh Tomar Music & Arts University


Madhya Pradesh Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel has said that music always appeals to the heart and holds an important place in every phase of a person’s life. He expressed these views while addressing the 6th Convocation Ceremony of Raja Mansingh Tomar Music and Arts University, Gwalior, on Sunday. The ceremony was presided over by renowned Kabir folk singer Padma Shri Kaluram Bamaniya. Eminent tabla maestro and academician Prof. Kiran Deshpande was present as the special guest.


Governor Patel stated that Raja Mansingh Tomar Music and Arts University is playing a significant role in promoting Indian music. Many of the university's students have established unique identities in the field of music. He emphasized that the youth should contribute to the nation's development with their full potential. The students who have been felicitated at the convocation should, through music, also contribute to national progress.


Life of Kiran Deshpande should serve as an inspiration


The Governor added that the life of senior tabla maestro Prof. Kiran Deshpande should serve as an inspiration to the youth. Even at the age of 87, his active involvement in tabla playing deserves immense praise. "Just as cricketers score centuries, we all wish for Prof. Deshpande to also achieve a century of age," he said.


Musical Presentations 


At the convocation, Prof. Pandit Kiran Deshpande expressed gratitude to the university for conferring on him the D.Litt. degree and offered his tabla recital as a token of thanks. Padma Shri Kaluram Bamaniya gave soulful performances of Kabir bhajans, emphasizing the importance of the Guru (spiritual teacher) in one’s life.


Enthralling Tribal Dance Performance


Students of the university presented a captivating Sahariya tribal dance during the convocation. Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel was ceremonially escorted to the stage in a procession at the beginning of the event. The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Smita Sahasrabuddhe welcomed the guests and presented the university’s annual report. Also present were University Registrar Prof. Rakesh Kushwaha, members of the General Council, Executive Council, and Student Council.
