India-Turkey Relations: IIT Roorkee has canceled the agreement with Turkey's Inonu University due to national security reasons. Earlier, institutions like JNU and Jamia had also canceled the MoU executed with Turkey's institutions.
India-Turkey Relations: India's leading educational institutions have decided to break their academic agreements (MoUs) with Turkey and Azerbaijan. IIT Roorkee has canceled the agreement with Turkey's Inonu University due to national security reasons. Along with this, Lovely Professional University (LPU) has also canceled all 6 MoUs with Turkey and Azerbaijan with immediate effect.
'We will pursue only those global collaborations that are in line with our academic goals'
IIT Roorkee said in an official statement that its international partnerships will prioritize India's national and strategic interests. The institute said, "We will pursue only those global collaborations that are in line with our academic goals and strengthen India's research and innovation." JNU, Jamia and Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) also cancelled MoU.
JNU also suspended the MoU with Inonu University
Earlier, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) also suspended the MoU with Turkey's Inonu University. JNU wrote in a post, "The agreement between JNU and Inonu University is suspended due to national security reasons. JNU stands with the country."
After this, Jamia Millia Islamia and Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) also announced the cancellation of agreements with Turkish institutions.
LPU also decided to cancel all six academic agreements
Punjab-based Lovely Professional University (LPU) has also decided to cancel all six academic agreements with Turkey and Azerbaijan. This includes student-teacher exchange, joint research projects and dual degree programs.
In fact, Turkey and Azerbaijan had supported Pakistan during the recent India-Pakistan tensions. After this many institutions of India decided to stop academic cooperation with these countries.
