Delhi's Aam Aadmi Party leader Himani Jain has said that 15 councillors of the party, including her, have announced to form a new front.
Himani Jain informed reporters about this and said that currently 15 councillors are with her, but this number may increase in the coming days.
Himani said, "We have resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party and have formed a new party. The new party is named Indraprastha Vikas Party."
Giving information about the formation of the new party, Himani Jain said, "In the last two and a half years, the work that should have been done in the corporation was not getting done. We were in power but still the work was not getting done because if we focus only in fighting then how will we work for the people of Delhi."
She said, "That is why we have formed a new party, whose ideology is that we have to work for the people of Delhi. We will support the party which will work in the interest of Delhi."
Major jolt to AAP
In a major jolt to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), fifteen municipal councillors in Delhi have resigned from the party and announced the formation of a separate political party named the Indraprastha Vikas Party.
The newly-formed front will be led by Hemchand Goel, with prominent former AAP leaders such as Mukesh Goel, Himani Jain, Devindra Kumar, Rajesh Kumar Ladi, Suman Anil Rana, Dinesh Bhardwaj, Runakshi Sharma, Manisha, Sahib Kumar, Rakhi Yadav, Usha Sharma, and Ashok Pandey playing key roles in the rebellion.
Among the rebels, Mukesh Goel's departure carries particular weight as he served as the Leader of the House for AAP in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
"We have launched Indraprastha Vikas Party because we were not able to do any public work for the past year or two. The House never functions smoothly due to disruptions," said Goel, claiming that more councillors might join their new party.
There is no system for us to work: Ashok Pandey
Meanwhile, Municipal Councilor Ashok Pandey from Vikas Nagar told reporters that he has also resigned from the party and joined the new party.
He said, "There is no system for us to work from collecting garbage to installing lights in unauthorized colonies and from cleaning sewers to cleaning drains."
"We have written letters to senior leaders of Aam Aadmi Party many times but there is no fund so we have left the party. Now more people will join us and if needed we will go to the Governor together."
