A tragic accident took place on Saturday night in Cuttack city of Odisha. A heavy concrete slab suddenly fell at the construction site of a bridge being built on the Kathjodi river. At least three people, including site engineer, died in this incident. Two other workers were seriously injured.
The incident occurred in Khan Nagar area of the city when prefabricated slabs were being raised with the help of a crane. Then suddenly a slab fell down. Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi has taken cognizance of the incident and announced assistance to the families of the deceased.
Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police Khilri Rishikesh Gyan Dev said, "Five people were injured in the incident. All were rushed by an ambulance to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where three people were declared dead. A crane driver was also injured."
The police have identified the deceased as Shiba Shankar Patnaik, Subhash Chandra Bhakt and site engineer Soumya Ranjan Behera. The official said that the condition of two other injured is said to be critical. The police have not yet known the exact cause of the accident.
Gyan Dev said that we have started our initial investigation and our team is present on the spot. All aspects will be investigated. At the same time, Cuttack Mayor Subhash Singh said that there should be a high -level inquiry into the unfortunate incident and strict action should be taken against those found guilty.
Compensation of Rs 15 lakh announced
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed grief over the incident during the bridge construction in Cuttack Khan Nagar. He expressed his deep condolences to the bereaved families of the dead and expressed his condolences to all. He has announced a compensation of Rs 15 lakh from the Chief Minister Relief Fund for the families of the deceased. He has also ordered free medical care for the investigation of the incident and those injured in the accident.
