New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon issue new Rs 20 notes under the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series. These notes will bear the signature of current RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra. The design and features of the new notes will be the same as the notes already in circulation. Old Rs 20 notes will also remain valid. This change is a normal process after the change of RBI Governor.
The RBI has clarified that the design of the new notes will be the same as the already circulating Rs 20 notes. The color, size, security features and the picture of Ellora caves will remain the same.
RBI has said in a notice, 'The Reserve Bank of India will soon issue Rs 20 banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series with the signature of Governor Sanjay Malhotra. The design of these notes is similar to the Rs 20 banknotes of the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series.' This means that the new note will look similar to the old note.
All the Rs 20 notes issued earlier will remain valid
The most important thing is that RBI has also said that all the Rs 20 notes issued earlier will remain valid. Irrespective of which governor's signature is on them, they will be fully valid for all transactions. Issuing new notes bearing the signature of the new governor is a normal process. This happens after a change in the top leadership of the RBI. This will not affect the utility or value of the old notes.
It is important to note that you do not need to worry about the new notes. The Rs 20 notes you already have will remain valid as before. This change is only because the new governor has taken charge. Therefore, you can use your old notes without any worry.
RBI keeps changing notes from time to time. These changes are made for security reasons and to improve the notes. But, the old notes always remain valid. Therefore, you should not pay attention to any kind of rumors.
