Roadmap For EV Revolution in Delhi: Will all CNG vehicles be converted to electric?

The Delhi government has constituted a 10-member committee of officials and experts to draft a revised electric vehicle (EV) policy. Officials gave information about this on Friday.

Delhi is experiencing an EV revolution, driven by its EV Policy 2.0, which aims for 95% EV registrations by 2027. This policy includes incentives for electric vehicles, charging infrastructure expansion, and a phase-out of CNG-powered vehicles. The Delhi government is also exploring carbon credits for EV owners and is planning to ban new petrol, diesel, or CNG two-wheelers from August 15, 2026.

All CNG vehicles may be converted to electric

A 12-point agenda has been set for the committee, which includes converting all CNG vehicles to electric, charging facilities under flyovers, management of battery waste, connectivity to the last destination, subsidy distribution and other aspects of the revised policy.

Committee will suggest how many EV charging stations should be built

According to the document, a committee of experts will tell after in-depth investigation how EV charging stations can be built under flyovers. Also, this committee will give suggestions on how many private and semi-public EV charging stations should be built every year.

Study will find out the number of CNG cars

According to an official document, for the change from CNG to EV, the committee will ensure that a scientific study is done to assess the number of CNG cars currently in use in Delhi and outline a practical plan to replace them with EVs within a year from April 1, 2026.
