US President Donald Trump has agreed to extend the deadline for negotiating tariffs with the European Union. He has given this information on his Truth social account.
Trump has said that he has agreed to extend the deadline for negotiating tariffs with the European Union till July 9.
Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also informed that she talked to Trump on phone on Sunday.
Ursula von der Leyen wrote on Instagram, "Had a good conversation with President Trump. The European Union and the US have the world's most important and close trade relationship. Europe is ready to move the talks forward quickly and decisively. We need time till July 9 to reach a good agreement."
Trump informed on Truth Social, "Today I received a call from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in which she appealed to extend the June 1 deadline for 50% tariffs in relation to trade and the European Union. I agreed to extend the deadline to July 9, 2025."
Last month, Trump had announced a 20% tariff on most goods from the European Union. Later, giving time for talks, the tariff rate was reduced to 10% by July 8.
However, on Friday, Trump expressed disappointment over the pace of negotiations with the European Union and threatened to impose 50% tariff, after which now news has come of extension of the negotiation deadline.
