Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) President Lalu Prasad Yadav has expelled his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav from the party for six years.
Lalu Prasad Yadav wrote on social media platform X, "Now Tej Pratap Yadav will not have any kind of role in the party and family."
Lalu Yadav has taken this step after a post made by Tej Pratap Yadav on Facebook on May 24. In this post, Tej Pratap is admitting to a love affair with a girl for the last 12 years.
Assembly elections are to be held in Bihar this year. Because of this, all the developments can also be seen politically.
In such a situation, what are the political implications of this decision of Lalu Yadav.
Tej Pratap Yadav contested his first election in the year 2015 from Mahua seat of Vaishali. After this, in 2020, he changed the seat and contested from Hasanpur assembly constituency of Samastipur district.
Calling himself a 'kingmaker' in politics, he has said on many occasions, "Tejaswi is Arjun and I am his charioteer."
But Tej Pratap's public behavior has often made the Lalu family uncomfortable.
Lalu Prasad Yadav's family is a political family. Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi have nine children. Of these, Misa Bharti, Tej Pratap, Tejashwi Yadav and Rohini Acharya are active in Bihar politics.
In Haryana, Lalu Yadav's daughter Anushka Yadav's husband Chiranjiv Rao and in Uttar Pradesh, his daughter Rajlakshmi Yadav's husband Tej Pratap Singh Yadav are also active in politics.
No political status without Lalu
Some analysts say Tej Pratap will contest the elections. He knows that without Lalu Yadav he has no political status. Here two things are possible. First, there will be full pressure on Rabri Devi to take him back into the party. He can be taken back into the party before the elections by assessing the assembly elections in terms of victory and defeat.
Second, RJD will not contest the seat from which Tej Pratap will contest and will give it to its allies. With no RJD candidate and the seat being Yadav-Muslim dominated, Tej Pratap will be closer to victory.
