Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has announced his retirement from Test cricket.
Kohli has had a great performance in Test cricket. He has played 123 Test matches and scored 9230 runs in 210 innings at an average of 46.85. His highest score is 254 runs (not out).
Kohli has scored 30 centuries in Test cricket and has also scored 31 half-centuries.
Kohli announced his retirement on Instagram.
He wrote in his post, "I wore the baggy blue for Test cricket for the first time 14 years ago. Honestly, I had not even imagined that my journey in this (Test) format would be like this. It tested me, refined me and taught me lessons that I will remember for a lifetime."
Virat Kohli wrote further, "Playing in the white jersey has been special for me personally. Long days and small moments that are not visible to anyone, but stay with you forever."
It is not easy for me to part ways with this format
Kohli wrote in the post, "It is not easy for me to part ways with this format - but this (decision) feels right to me. I gave it (Test) everything I had, and it gave me even more than I could have hoped for."
He wrote that he is parting ways with Test cricket with a heartfelt gratitude towards this game.
Kohli said that he is also grateful to all those people with whom he was on the field and to everyone who was with him in this journey.
Virat finally wrote, "I will always look back at my Test career with happiness."
