Poonch: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday met the families affected by the cross-border shelling in Poonch and expressed condolences. Abdullah stressed the need for sympathy towards the affected families, saying, “Nobody has made any demand or said anything. This is a time of grief for them, for their families, and it is our duty personally more than anything else to try and empathise with them in this hour of need. War is never right.”
Abdullah expressed his sympathy to the affected families, offering support from his administration. He said, “Look, they are all immersed in their grief, so I have come here only to offer my condolences and sympathy and the support of my administration.”
CM Omar Abdullah interacted with several persons injured during the heavy shelling by Pakistan in the last few days. He enquired about their health and assured them of support from the administration. Abdullah also met the families of the civilians killed in the firing. These included the family of Amrik Singh, who was killed in the firing incident.
Assured them of the best possible medical care: CM
CM said, "Visited the district hospital in Poonch to inquire about those injured in the recent shelling. It was heartening to witness their courage and resilience. Assured them of the best possible medical care and full support from the administration.
A ceasefire was signed between India and Pakistan on May 10. However, even after the ceasefire was implemented, Pakistan heavily shelled many areas of India. India accused Pakistan of breaking the ceasefire and retaliated. In a special briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri called it a violation of the agreement reached earlier on Saturday and said that India "takes these violations very seriously."
Civilian areas in Rajouri district of Jammu were damaged due to Pakistan's shelling. A series of explosions damaged many houses and properties across the area, causing panic among the residents. According to locals, smoke started rising after loud explosions were reported in Rajouri.
