The Uttar Pradesh government has taken precautionary measures after the death of a tigress in Gorakhpur Zoo. The tigress had been rescued from Dudhwa Wildlife Range in 2024. Its viscera examination revealed bird flu as the cause of death.
Chief Wildlife Conservator Anuradha Vemuri told media that the zoological gardens of Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Kanpur and the Lion Safari of Etawah will remain closed for a week. The government has instructed to be vigilant at all wildlife sanctuaries.
This is the fourth incident in Gorakhpur since March 30. Earlier, a tiger, a female leopard and a wolf rescued from Bahraich had died. Samples of the employees working in the zoo have also been taken.
After this, on the instructions of the UP government, all zoos have been closed for a week. In this matter, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also held a meeting on Tuesday.
In this meeting, the Chief Minister gave instructions to regularly sanitize the zoo premises, examine all wild animals and birds and thoroughly check their diet. The government has instructed to monitor all the poultry farms of the state as per the standards.
