Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka government in action, Police Commissioner among many officers suspended, organizers to be arrested

Bengaluru: After the painful stampede incident in Bengaluru during the RCB match, the Karnataka government has swung into action mode. After 11 people lost their lives and many others were injured in this accident, the state government has now taken strict action against the police department. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has suspended the police commissioner, ACP, DCP and many other officials with immediate effect. The organizers of the program are also facing action and there are indications of arrest. An FIR has already been registered against the team management in this case.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah suspended Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda and several other senior police officials in connection with the stampede.

The government has admitted that there was serious negligence in this event, there was a huge lapse in crowd control and security arrangements were inadequate. The Chief Minister admitted that a much larger crowd had gathered than expected, which could not be controlled. Now after investigation, the arrest of the organizers is believed to be certain. The matter has also been heard in the High Court and questions have been raised on the role of the administration.

CM orders arrest of representatives of RCB team

CM also ordered the arrest of representatives of the RCB team, the event management firm DNA Entertainment Private Limited, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), hours after an FIR was registered against them under various charges, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

An FIR has already been registered against the team organizers in connection with this accident. Now this is a clear indication from the government that the organizers can also be arrested. The main reason for the accident is being said to be communication gap, failure in crowd control and negligence in security. The Chief Minister said that the entire process will be reviewed to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in future.

Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister also announced a one-man judicial probe, headed by Justice Michael D'Cunha, a retired High Court judge of Karnataka, into the tragic incident. "We have told the commission to give the report in 30 days," Siddaramaiah said.
