On the stampede in Bengaluru, Indian batsman Virat Kohli has said that he is completely shattered by this accident.
Kohli shared a statement issued by Royal Challengers Bangalore on the social media platform Instagram and wrote, "I have no words to say. I am completely shattered."
According to the statement shared by him, RCB said, "We are deeply saddened by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports. Everyone's safety and well-being is of utmost importance to us."
According to the statement, RCB has regretted the loss of life and property and has expressed its condolences to the affected families.
At least 11 people have died and many have been injured in a stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
Players should not be blamed: Atul Wassan
Former India pacer Atul Wassan has said that the players should not be blamed. He said he was taken aback by the unprecedented hype surrounding RCB's win, noting that none of the nine previous IPL-winning franchises had sparked such fervour. Wassan believes this frenzy, not the players, fuelled the madness in Bengaluru.
"Yeah, so very sad, you know, it's tragic what I heard, and it just transpired in front of my eyes because since last night after the match, I've been doing shows, and I saw that relief on Virat's face and the kind of traction. I could see that, and he had made it clear in 2016 when he lost it that it was one of his worst moments. So I think the fans got into this. They bought into this story of Virat that it was such a big thing, and when Virat got it eventually with Anushka and all, that I think is when fans went crazy," Wassan told media.
Magisterial inquiry announced
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a magisterial inquiry into the matter.
On Wednesday, more than one lakh fans had gathered outside the stadium to celebrate the victory of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.
Youngsters, women, men and even the elderly were standing on the roadside to welcome the RCB team and celebrate the victory of the IPL trophy after 18 years.
