How sculptural art is getting a new lease of life in Vidisha's Pathari region: Boost to employment and preservation of heritage


In the Pathari region of ​​Vidisha district, priceless idols are being made from unique stones. The idols, which are becoming the center of faith, belief and devotion, are becoming the first choice of devotees and art lovers. This practice is promoting both architecture and sculpture in the area.

Stone idols are being made in village Saidpur of Tehsil Pathari of Vidisha district. These idols are being made from the amazing red, yellow and brown stones of village Saidpur. Idols of Hindu, Jain and Buddhist religions are being made. Idols of 24 Tirthankaras of Jainism are also being made.

Recently, collector Anshul Gupta, during his visit to the Pathari area, also visited Sukriti Kala Kendra Saidpur and praised the amazing idols. During his visit to Pathari, Collector Gupta appreciated the skill of the artists making these idols and encouraged them.

This is how the idol making started

Stone mine owner Dimple Singhai told that stone blocks for making the foundation of Jain temples are sent from the plateau region to the whole country. In 2018-19, Acharya Shri Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj in Khajuraho demanded stone for the idol making. Quality stones from Saidpur mine were selected in the international laboratory. After this, the construction of idols started with the inspiration of Munishri Durlabh Sagar Ji Maharaj.

Boost to employment generation

There is hope of generation of employment opportunities in the region through the statues being made by Sukriti Kala Kendra Saidpur. At the same time, the Pathari region will get a new identity in the whole country. Architecture, Vastu and Sculpture will get protection and promotion in the region. 

New handicraft artists will get a new open platform in the region. The Pathari region is the famous stone market of the country. The stones mined here are internationally renowned. The youth will get a chance to do new experiments for stone art. It is worth mentioning that at present there is a good craze of stone art.
