Indian students who returned from Iran tell about the situation in Tehran

The first flight carrying 110 Indian students who were safely evacuated from Iran reached Delhi early on Thursday.

A group of 110 students -- all from Urmia Medical University in Iran -- landed in Delhi early this morning under India's 'Operation Sindhu'.

A student, Yasir Ghaffar, while talking to media said, "I saw a lot there... saw missile attacks... heard loud noises at night... I am happy to reach India... when the situation improves, we will go to Iran again..."

A student, Ghazal said, "We are feeling very good to be back... the Indian Embassy rescued us very well. We are very grateful to them... the situation in Tehran was very bad, but where we lived, Urmia, the situation was better compared to other cities."

However, students expressed displeasure over the buses that the Jammu and Kashmir government provided to them to travel back home from Delhi.

The office of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said it has "taken note" of the request of the students and is coordinating with the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation to ensure "proper deluxe buses" for them.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India has started 'Operation Sindhu' to evacuate Indian citizens from Iran.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on June 18 that on June 17, 110 students were safely evacuated from the northern part of Iran.

The students were brought to Armenia and from there they were brought to Delhi via a special flight.
