Revolution of E-Scooters Powered by Sea Salt Batteries Has Begun in China

Electric scooters having batteries that run on sea salt are soon going to hit the roads in a country where scooters running on petrol and lithium-ion batteries have been common till now. This technology is not only beneficial for the environment, but its cost is also much lower than traditional scooters.

How Sea Salt battery works?

Sodium-ion batteries are used in these scooters, which are made from sodium obtained from sea salt. This battery is a cheap and affordable alternative to lithium-ion or lead-acid batteries, which charges fast and give good performance.

Live test drive in Hangzhou

A live test drive of these scooters was organized in front of a shopping mall in Hangzhou city of China. For this, special charging stations were installed, in which the battery can be charged from 0 to 80% in just 15 minutes.

Price and availability

The price of these scooters has been kept between $400 to $660 (i.e. around Rs 35,000 to Rs 51,000), making it an accessible option for common people as well. Yadea company has introduced three different models based on this technology in the market

Big step towards sustainability

These batteries made from sea salt are not only cheap but also eco-friendly. Sodium is an element that is available in abundance on earth, which reduces dependence on natural resources. This technology can change the direction of the EV industry in the coming times.

Will such scooters come to India too?

While China is adopting this technology on a large scale, it can be a big inspiration for India too. It is expected that salt-powered scooters can also enter India in the coming years.
