Gujarat: Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi approve appointment of chiefs of district & city units; will it re-energize party structure ahead of assembly elections


Congress has intensified its preparations in view of the assembly elections in Gujarat. The party has appointed 40 district and city presidents. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi have launched the 'Sangthan Srujan' campaign, under which presidents of 40 district and city units were appointed.

The Congress has started the organization creation campaign from Gujarat itself. Under this, 50 percent of district or city president have been assigned the responsibility for the first time. In this process, the role of observers of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the State Congress Committee (PCC) has been important.

The Congress has started the organization creation campaign with the aim of strengthening the party in the state before the Gujarat assembly elections to be held in 2027. Fixing the responsibility of the district presidents in this direction is considered an important step. Under this campaign, appointments of district presidents will also be made in other states in the coming few months.

Aim is to re-energize the party structure: Venugopal

Congress Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal has given his reaction regarding the changes made under the Sangathan Srujan Abhiyan. Venugopal said that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the appointment of District and City Congress Committee (DCC) Presidents in Gujarat with immediate effect. These appointments are part of the comprehensive organizational process going on under the 'Sangathan Srujan' campaign. The aim of this campaign is to re-energize the party structure from booth to district level, with special emphasis on transparent, inclusive and ideology-based leadership selection.

Earlier, on April 12, 43 AICC observers and 183 PCC observers were given the responsibility of all the districts of Gujarat. After this, the AICC observers along with the PCC observers held discussions with all the 26 Lok Sabha constituencies, 182 assembly constituencies and about 235 block Congress committees of the state.
