For the first time in the world a car drove from the factory without a driver and reached the buyer's house. Businessman Elon Musk delivered his company Tesla's fully autonomous (self-driving) car on his birthday. The car reached its destination through parking places, highways and city roads without any driver or remote operator.
The electric car that reached thcustomer's house is 'Model Y'. Tesla has shared the video of the car's delivery on X. In this, the car can be seen moving on its own. It stops at the signal, when a car or person comes in front of it and then moves forward.
The company said in the official post that we have made the first delivery of the fully self-drive car Model Y in the city of Texas.
Tesla's AI and Autopilot chief Ashok Eluswami said that the car achieved a top speed of 116kmph during the delivery.
Musk, in his posts on X announcing the feat, added: "There were no people in the car at all and no remote operators in control at any point. FULLY autonomous! To the best of our knowledge, this is the first fully autonomous drive with no people in the car or remotely operating the car on a public highway."
Tesla's much-anticipated launch of its Full Self-Driving technology has been repeatedly delayed over the years. Musk initially promised Tesla's cars would demonstrate full autonomy by the end of 2017. Despite the persistent delays, the Model Y delivery still marks a major success for the company.
Tesla has updated the Model Y to make it a fully autonomous car. It was first launched in March 2019. The price of Model Y worldwide starts at $ 40,000 (about Rs 34 lakh). It is available in 3 variants - rear wheel drive, long range and performance. The performance version comes for $ 60,000 (about Rs 51 lakh).
