Uttarakhand: Nine workers missing after cloudburst in Uttarkashi; Chardham Yatra stopped


Monsoon rains are continuing in most parts of the country. Heavy rains have been continuing in Uttarakhand since Saturday. The Chardham Yatra has been stopped here for the next 24 hours. Passengers have been ordered to stop at Haridwar, Rishikesh, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Sonprayag and Vikasnagar only.

Nine workers are missing due to a landslide following cloudburst near Silai Band in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Uttarkashi Police has given this information.

The nine workers were staying at an under-construction hotel site. They went missing after a cloudburst severely damaged the construction site at Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri Marg in Uttarkashi district.

Hotel under construction suffered heavy damage

Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya said, “Due to a cloud burst in Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri Marg of Uttarkashi district, a hotel under construction has suffered heavy damage. Nine workers staying at this under-construction hotel site are missing.”

Uttarkashi Police posted on the social media platform X and wrote, "9 workers are reported missing due to heavy rains (landslide) near Silai Band, about 4-5 km from Paligad on the Yamunotri National Highway."

The police further said, "Relief and search and rescue work is being done by teams of Police, SDRF, NH Barkot, Health Department etc."

According to the police, the labor camp came under the grip of a landslide. 19 workers were living in the camp. Out of these, ten workers are safe and have been rescued and taken to a safe place.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also given information related to this on Twitter.

He has written on Twitter, "Some workers have been reported missing in the tragic incident of landslide in Silai Band area of ​​​​Barkot tehsil of Uttarkashi district."

"SDRF, NDRF and other teams have reached the spot and are engaged in intensive relief and rescue work. I am constantly in touch with the concerned officials in this matter. I pray to God for the safety of everyone."
