Bhopal: Due to the strong weather system active in Madhya Pradesh, there is a continuous spell of heavy rain. On Monday, rain was recorded in about 25 districts of the state, including the capital, Bhopal. It has been raining continuously in Bhopal since morning.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there was heavy rain in many districts and light rain in others. Due to the continuous rain, major rivers in the state, including the Narmada, are in spate. The rain quota has been fulfilled in eight districts of the state. The administration is on alert in districts where heavy rainfall is occurring.
Heavy rain alert
The IMD has issued an alert for heavy rain over the next three days. Shajapur recorded 4 cm of rainfall, while Bhopal, Pachmarhi, Narmadapuram, and Guna received 2.5 cm each.
Khargone saw 1.5 cm of rain. Rainfall also occurred in many districts, including Rajgarh, Indore, Ratlam, Ujjain, Betul, Chhindwara, Jabalpur, Sagar, Balaghat, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Shivpuri, Sehore, Shajapur, Bhind, Raisen, Singrauli, Dewas, and Agar-Malwa.
Low pressure area active in western MP
Senior scientist of the Meteorological Department, Dr. Divya E. Surendran, said that a low-pressure area is active in the western part of the state. Additionally, the activity of two troughs is also being observed. This has resulted in spells of very heavy or heavy rain. Such weather is expected to continue for the next 2-3 days, meaning the last days of July will also be marked by heavy rain.
The monsoon arrived in Madhya Pradesh on June 16. Since then, an average of 62 cm of rain has occurred, while only 40 cm was expected. This indicates that approximately 22 cm more rainfall has occurred than anticipated.
The rain quota has been fulfilled in Gwalior, Shivpuri, Ashoknagar, Morena, Sheopur, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari, with 37% more rain than normal reported in these areas. Tikamgarh-Niwari has received the maximum rainfall of 105 cm, while Indore has recorded less than 25 cm of rain. The situation in Ujjain is also concerning. Meanwhile, Bhopal and Jabalpur have received half of the total rainfall for the season.
