In the 68th over of the fourth Test match being played between India and England at Old Trafford in Manchester, Rishabh Pant injured his leg while trying to reverse sweep a yorker length ball from Chris Woakes.
Pant was feeling a lot of pain and it was clearly visible on his face. India's physio ran on the field to help him, but Pant did not seem to get much benefit. Putting his hand on the physio's shoulder, he tried to go out of the field with the help of one leg, but due to the pain a golf buggy had to be called.
Rishabh Pant got injured in the Manchester Test when he was playing after scoring 37 runs off 48 balls. Then he got injured while trying to reverse sweep a yorker length ball from Chris Woakes.
Due to the injury, he got a cut near the little finger of his right foot, which was seen bleeding. Gradually the swelling started increasing at that place and he was seen groaning in pain. Seeing the seriousness of Pant's injury, he was taken to the hospital for a scan.
At the end of the first day's play, India had scored 264 runs for the loss of four wickets. Shardul Thakur (19) and Ravindra Jadeja (19) are at the crease.
'He has been taken for a scan'
Sai Sudarshan, who made his Test debut in this match, said in the press conference after the end of the first day's play, "He (Rishabh Pant) was definitely in a lot of pain. He has been taken for a scan."
Sudarshan said, "He batted very well. (If he is not able to play again) then he will be missed a lot. He (Rishabh Pant) is a great player. His leg injury does not seem to be minor, I hope he is feeling fine. But, I don't think he will be able to take part in this match much."
After the day's play ended, the BCCI wrote on the social media platform X, "Rishabh Pant injured his right leg while batting on the first day of the Manchester Test."
BCCI medical team is monitoring his condition
The statement further said, "He has been taken from the stadium for a scan. The BCCI medical team is monitoring his condition."
India's wicketkeeper and vice-captain Pant had to take the help of a golf-buggy-like vehicle to take him out of the field. After this, the Indian coaching staff gave him first aid.
Pant's innings of 37 runs in 48 balls was restrained. In this, he also played some aggressive shots as per his style.
