Is Trump disappointed with progress on trade deal with India, what White House advisor said?
White House economic advisor Kevin Hassett has said that US President Donald Trump is disappointed with the progress of the ongoing trade deal with India.
He believes that the 25 percent tariff imposed on India will help improve this situation and find a solution.
On Wednesday, Hassett said, "India's market has been largely closed to American products, while the US market has been completely open for them. I think President Trump is not satisfied with the progress made with India, but he feels that this tariff will be beneficial for the American people."
US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that from August 1, a 25 percent tariff will be imposed on all goods coming to the US from India. Apart from this, Trump has also talked about imposing additional import duty against India for buying arms and oil from Russia.
Regarding the tariff imposed on India, Hassett said, "What will happen now is that India will reduce the price of its products in America, so that it can maintain its market share."
He also said, "Other countries are also doing this. After this, India will probably reconsider those policies, due to which this tariff had to be imposed."
