Recently, when these champion girls met the Minister of Women and Child Development, Nirmala Bhuria, the atmosphere was filled with emotion and pride. Their sparkling eyes, confident smiles, and hearts burning with ambition spoke volumes.

1st Asian Chess for Freedom Championship was held online
It is noteworthy that the 1st Asian Chess for Freedom Championship was held online, with participation from 15 countries across four continents. As part of Indian Oil’s Parivartan – Prison to Prime initiative, these girls received training in chess, which paved the way for their outstanding achievement.
Girls will now represent India in the World Championship
Trainer Abhijeet Kunte shared that when he first went to train the girls, many of them were hesitant and afraid, but he salutes their indomitable spirit. Through consistent hard work over a period of 3 to 6 months, they transformed into champions. Kunte also announced that the girls will now represent India in the World Championship this October.
Girls expressed their aspiration to compete in even bigger tournaments
During the interaction, the girls shared how chess has taught them patience, strategy, and self-confidence. They expressed their aspiration to compete in even bigger tournaments and represent the nation. Pride and deep satisfaction were visible in the eyes of the trainers and child protection officers who had nurtured them, as if their efforts had finally reached a meaningful and rewarding destination.
