Tennis player Radhika Yadav was shot dead in Sector 57 of Sector 56 police station area of Gurugram. According to the police, her father Deepak Yadav is accused of shooting Radhika.
The incident took place around 10.30 am on the first floor of their house in Sector 57, police said. According to initial information, the accused father fired three bullets at Radhika, critically injuring her. She was rushed to a private hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Deepak Yadav was reportedly upset with his daughter's addiction to making reels on Instagram. He feared it was bringing shame to the family. He told the police that whenever he visited his village, he faced taunts and criticism from locals over his daughter’s social media presence. He had been under stress for the past 15 days due to this and so ultimately took such step.
Gurugram Police spokesperson Sandeep Singh said, "Today we received information from a private hospital in Sector 56 police station of Gurugram about a girl, who was said to have been shot and was dead."
Police said that, "When the police team went to the hospital and inquired about this, it was found that it was a 25-year-old girl named Radhika."
Sandeep Singh said, "When the police went to the house and inquired, it was found that the girl was a tennis player. She was shot by her father and the police have arrested him. During interrogation, he has admitted to carrying out this incident."
