Trump extends tariff deadline till August 1: new rates announced for 14 countries including Japan and Bangladesh; highest 40% tax on Myanmar and Laos


US President Donald Trump has announced that the tariffs that were to be implemented from July 9 will now be implemented from August 1.

Apart from this, Trump has decided to impose new tariff rates on 14 countries including Bangladesh and Japan.

Trump has shared the letter sent to the leaders of these countries on social media and informed about the new tariff rates.

Along with this, Trump wrote, "This can be revised based on our relationship with you".

President Donald Trump has reiterated the imposition of tariffs on 14 countries including Myanmar at 40 percent, Thailand at 36 percent, Bangladesh at 35 percent, Indonesia at 32 percent and South Africa at 30 percent.

Trump had first talked about imposing a 10% baseline tax on all US imports and separate taxes on 60 countries in April. After that announcement, there was turmoil in the stock and bond markets around the world, so he postponed the tariffs for some time and gave countries a chance to make new deals with the US.

Earlier they were given time till July 8, so that new tariffs could be implemented from July 9. Now this deadline has been extended to August 1.

New proposed rates

Myanmar and Laos: 40 percent

Thailand: 36 percent

Bangladesh and Serbia: 35 percent

Indonesia: 32 percent

Bosnia, South Africa: 30 percent

Tunisia, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Japan: 25 percent
